Reverend Quincy Shannon (aka Rev. Q) Bio

Reverend Quincy Shannon or Q as most know him, is a Denver native Quincy became licensed to preach the Gospel under Dr James D Peters at New Hope Baptist Church located in Denver, Colorado in 2003 & was Ordained as a National Baptist Minister of the Gospel at New Hope Baptist Church in 2010. He currently serves at New Hope as the Youth and Young Adult Pastor.

Quincy is a graduate of Denver East High school, which is where a lot of his activism began. He helped create a group called Students for Justice and worked with the Colorado Progressive Coalition to use his voice and platform to address issues in his community. He worked to establish a boycott of a local business that had been racially profiling students and fought to keep another DPS high school from keeping a system that crated in school segregation.

Quincy furthered his education becoming the 3rd generation of his family to attend Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. His grandmother attended in the 30’s and his mother and father met while attending Lincoln.  At Lincoln Quincy held several leadership positions the most notable being that he served as Mr. Lincoln University in 2005/2006.

It was also at Lincoln in 2004 where Quincy became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated in which he is the former international undergraduate chaplain and former 2nd vice district representative for the 8th district.

Quincy graduated with a BS in Broadcast Communication and received his Master’s in Divinity from the Samuel D Procter School of Theology at Virginia Union University.

In 2009 he started his consulting company Quintessential Remedy where he does motivational speaking, poetry, and teaches soft skills (communication, ethics, inspiration) to clients. He is on the admin leadership team at Denver School of Science and Technology Green Valley Ranch, where he serves as the Dean of students.

Quincy is a past president of the Denver Urban League Young Professionals, co-founder of the Denver Freedom Riders (where he took trips to Standing Rock, Ferguson, and has led protest all over the country), graduate of the Urban Leadership Academy 2017 class, and is a Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce  Leadership Denver graduate of class 2014.

As Denver protests began to honor the legacy of George Floyd, to bring light to overt police brutality, and to insure the world knew Black Lives Matter, Quincy stepped up to lead. He organized with different sound companies to provide sound downtown for his direct actions and the direct actions of many other groups. Quincy worked with Denver Parks and Recreation to insure porta-potties were in the downtown area of Denver for protesters to utilize.

Quincy led actions that highlighted youth voices, artists, athletes, and several other groups with the mission of changing the narrative that all protesters were looting, violent, and causing destruction. From the Denver Broncos to politicians, Quincy has organized and led marches for justice with thousands of people following his direction. Quincy organized a walking tour of Denver’s historic 5 points neighborhood to use history to insure people knew why Black Lives Matter. In addition, organized and led a bike tour of the downtown where he took participants to many of the different Black Lives Matters Murals and art instillations that highlight or mourn different relevant people.

Quincy has recently turned his attention to the redlining that has happened in the mountains to help diversify a space that has often lacked inclusion. He is the co-founder of a black ski club called Ski Noir, which is associated with the National Brotherhood of Skiers. He started a company called Neighborhood Uplift that does historical tours of Denver historical black neighborhood while also providing trips to expose people to the mountains. He has collaborated with Aspen Ski Company, Patagonia, Alterra Mountain Company, and a list of other partners to provide access and accessibility to different mountain activities. He currently is in the process of buying a 56 passenger charter bus to help eliminate barriers that have often kept diverse groups from experiencing the beauty of the mountains.

Quincy says his life’s motto is that he lives by 3 things Faith, Hope, & Love. Faith in God, Hope to fufil his purpose making his destiny his reality while altering negative black stereotypes, and Love for life and those around him
