Jacqueline Culver – Ski Racing in College

Jacqueline is a member of the 2022-2023 NBS A Team, and a member of the NBS Eastern Region – Snowburners NY ski club. She has been skiing for 17 years and competing for 12 years. She started attending Brown University in September 2022 after graduating high school from Stratton Mountain School in Vermont. Stratton Mountain School trains winter athletes with a focus on Alpine skiing (including Freeski and Freestyle), Snowboarding, and Nordic skiing. The school has produced 46 Olympic athletes who have won six medals (3 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze).

At the end of October 2021 thru November 2021, Jacqueline spent approximately 28 days training in Hintertux, Austria with the Stratton Mountain School.

Here are Jacqueline’s top 3 sanctioned competition race results:

  • Suicide 6 FIS SL2/27/20229th place overall
  • Whiteface FIS SL 3/03/20227th place overall
  • Whiteface FIS SL 3/31/20228th place overall

In Jacqueline’s words this is what the NBS Olympic Scholarship Fund (OSF) means to her:

The NBS OSF scholarship will not only allow me to continue my ski racing career into college, but it will also aid me in representing NBS in the collegiate USCSA division. Ski racing has been one of my lifelong passions and I feel extremely lucky to continue this sport through college. I would love to represent NBS and help to pave the way to encourage other young black students to involve themselves in snow sports like Alpine Ski racing

Jacqueline’s three goals for the 2022-2033

  • Win USCSA Women’s Regional Slalom Champion (McConnell Division)
  • Compete with Brown University’s Ski Team in the USCSA Nationals
  • Finish in the top 30 in the FIS competition

Jacqueline’s long-term goals are to:

  • Continue racing throughout her years in college
  • Continue to be involved in the ski racing community
  • Promote diversity in the sport beyond her years as a racer
